Nick Schrank...The Future of the NFL

Here's the inspirational story of Nick Schrank, a guy with a goal to play in the NFL (hat tip to Jimmy Traina at SI.com). Schrank overcame injuries and is now teaming up with a production company to capture his path the professional football. GNAC Basketball Playoffs

Jamar Berry and his Central Washington University teammates look to wrap up a trip to the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The GNAC Tournament begins Monday.


The Great Northwest Athletic Conference wrapped up regular season play this past week. On the men's side Central Washington takes home the conference's number one seed. They finished 16-2 in conference and host Montana State University-Billings (6-12, 8-17) Monday in the opening round of the GNAC men's basketball tournament.

On the women's side, Western Washington nearly pulled off an undefeated conference season, losing the final game 71-63 to Seattle Pacific (13-5, 19-7). The Vikings (17-1, 24-2) are ranked number one in the Div. II West Region. They take on Simon Fraser (4-14, 7-16) their final conference game.

The winner of the conference tournament is guaranteed a spot in the Div. II National Tournament, while the losers are left to scoop up at large bids.

NFL Combine




Jake Locker is currently attending the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, IN. So is this guy.

The National Football League Combine kicks off today in Indianapolis. And it's not just for big shots like former Washington Quarterback Jake Locker. Although Locker is a bonafide top five quarterback prospect, we all know draft stock rises and sinks as fluidly as the tides. Snow Day!!!

Build a snow sculpture in the park and win prizes, courtesy the APRD

The Anacortes Parks and Recreation Department is putting on a snow sculpture contest in the park. Which park? Storvick, Kiwanis Meadows, and Causland. Build a sculpture, take a photo, and send it to Nicole Johnston at Nicolej@cityofanacortes.org. Here's the link to the Parks Dept. Website, where they'll post any new information.

When: Today and tomorrow
Where: Storvick Park (1110 32nd St.), Kiwanis Meadows (13th street, near the baseball fields), and Causland Park (710 N Ave.)
What: Snow Sculpture Contest in the Park
Who: Anybody (being put on by the Anacortes Parks and Rec Dept.
Cost: Free!!!
Why: Because you only get so many snow days a year, plus you can win prizes.

Dallas Kloke Memorial Sunset Loop Relay 10 Mile Run

Dallas Kloke, a mountain climbing pioneer and outdoor enthusiast, died in a mountain climbing accident late last year.
The Inaugural Dallas Kloke Sunset Loop Relay 10 Mile Run is set for Sat. March 12. The Anacortes Parks and Recreation Dept. is currently accepting registration. The Cost is $64 for four-member teams (with T-Shirt, $32 without) or $16 per individual ($8 without T-Shirt). Register by 5:00 Friday to ensure your T-Shirt. Each loop is about 2.5 miles, so stretch out the quads, loosen up the calves, and head on over to the Parks Department for more information.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (W.I.A.A.) recently released the Winter Sports Academic State Champions. Five Athletics Northwest Athletic Conference Squads earned state titles, including the Anacortes boy's wrestling team. Here's the complete printout.
